Where to start when choosing your wedding photographer?
A helpful guide and some top tips when choosing your wedding photographer!
Can you happily spend a day in their company?
It is going to be an important day in your life. It needs to be a positive and enjoyable experience for you!
It makes a big difference when a bride says, “Patrick is here!” rather than, “The photographer is here!”
Do you feel relaxed and comfortable?
From my perspective, it’s essential that we get along. I’ve genuinely enjoyed being around the couples I’ve photographed. If you feel at ease it will show in the photographs!
Does their work captivate you?
It’s important to find out if a photographer has previously worked at your venue and can provide examples of their work from there. However, this isn’t essential, as every photographer has to start somewhere, and sometimes, it’s exciting to see a venue through fresh eyes. I shoot many destination weddings in Italy and France, and each venue I visit is new to me, which keeps me on my toes!
My style combines stunning couple portraits with genuine moments that truly reflect the essence of the wedding, rather than relying solely on posed shots.
Some other photographers rely on a set of posed shots, and some clients may prefer that approach, there’s no right or wrong way to go about it; it all depends on what feels right for you.
Do you feel a connection with them?
It may seem obvious, but I suggest that you feel a connection with a photographer’s work.
Sometimes I wonder if people become distracted by package prices, and forget to consider whether they truly love what that photographer does!
I strive to showcase the couples’ uniqueness while also capturing their authentic beauty.
It’s essential for me to document moments that couples may not even realize are happening.
That’s why I prefer to stay for the entire event, or at least until 10:30 PM, so I can capture every aspect of their special day.
I never pressure couples to book. Instead, I reserve the date for 3 days after a visit to my studio to give plenty of time to make a relaxed decision.
