Hertfordshire portrait photographer capturing you & your family at your fabulous, laid-back best

Hey, I’m Patrick – a natural family portrait photographer based in Hertford, capturing real smiles, tiny toes, muddy adventures, and all the glorious chaos in between.

As I watched our babas grow I came up with a little line that sums up what inspires me to pick up my camera.

“I wish I could pause and rewind life like I can on my TV, so that as days turn into years I can relive these moments forever and show you how much you have always meant to me’”

It might sound airy fairy but it’s absolutely my ethos!

I’VE NEVER MET A BABA THAT CAN READ THE TIME, which is why I allow plenty of time for every shoot. If Baba needs a feed, that’s cool. If Baba wants a nap, that’s cool too! You’ll be looking at the pictures for a lot longer than it takes to capture them and I thrive on capturing Baba as their perfect selves. I offer relaxed lifestyle sessions out in the wild (well, the Hertfordshire countryside) or in my cosy studio. Think the kind of moments you’ll want to bottle forever.

Take a look around – if it makes you smile, I’d love to help tell your family’s story.

Portrait FAQs

Family Portfolio FAQs

What types of family sessions do you offer?
I photograph everyone, from newborn and baby sessions to extended family portraits. Whether it’s a relaxed session at my studio or an outdoor adventure, each shoot is tailored to your family’s personality.
When is the best time to book a session?
It’s best to book 4–6 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date, especially in spring and autumn when demand is highest. For newborn sessions, we recommend booking before your due date.
Where do the sessions take place?
Sessions can be in my cosy studio, in a favourite outdoor location, or anywhere that’s meaningful to you. I’m based in Hertford and happy to travel locally.
What should we wear?
Neutral tones and simple, comfortable clothing work best. I’ll send you a style guide to help you coordinate outfits without feeling too “matchy.”
How long does a session last?
Most family sessions last around 1–2 hours. I allow plenty of time for breaks, cuddles, and snacks if needed – especially with little ones. The actual photographs take around 30 minutes but I allow plenty of time for everyone to relax.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If we’re planning an outdoor session and the forecast looks stormy, we’ll reschedule at no extra charge. Cloudy skies are no problem – they make for beautiful soft light!
When will we see our photos?
Your edited gallery will be ready within 2–3 weeks. You’ll receive a private online gallery to view, download, and order prints or albums. Or you are welcome to view your images on our big screen.
Can we include grandparents or pets?
Absolutely. Your family story includes everyone special to you, whether that’s grandparents, godparents, or the family dog.
Do you offer prints or albums?
Yes, I offer beautifully crafted albums and fine art prints. You’ll have full access to my curated product range after your gallery is ready.
How do we book?
Simply get in touch via my contact page. I’ll guide you through the next steps and help you plan a session that feels completely “you.”

Family Session Style Guide

Helping you look and feel your best – beautifully timeless, effortlessly you.

Keep it Simple. Keep it You

The best outfits are the ones that feel natural. I recommend soft, neutral tones – think whites, creams, light greys, and earthy shades like sage, beige, or dusty blue. These colours photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your connections, not your clothes. Alternatively, black is striking, especially in black and white images.

Co-ordinate. Don’t Match

Aim for co-ordinated colours and complementary textures rather than identical outfits. For example, mum in a soft linen dress, dad in a light knit or button-down, and little ones in cotton or muslin pieces in similar tones. As mentioned, everyone in black or white is still a great look.

Comfort is Key

Choose clothes you can move in, cuddle in, and feel relaxed wearing. If your child wants to run barefoot or twirl in a dress, that’s a moment worth capturing.

Textures & Layers

Textures add depth to photos – think chunky knits, linen, wool, or denim. Layers like cardigans, scarves, or wraps can also give you options during the shoot and are great for staying warm during outdoor sessions.

Avoid Logos and Loud Patterns

Brand logos, character prints, or bold patterns can distract from the natural feel of your portraits. Aim for timeless over trendy – photos you’ll still love in ten years.

For Little Ones

Bring a spare outfit (or two), just in case. Natural fabrics like cotton and muslin photograph well and are comfy for babies and toddlers. Bare feet are always welcome.

Hair & Makeup Tips

Go with your usual style – polished but still you. If you’re thinking of having your hair or makeup done, aim for soft, natural tones. This isn’t about looking different, it’s about feeling your best.

Optional Extras

• Bring a favourite blanket or toy for younger children – something meaningful and comforting.

• Snacks and water are always a good idea.

• If we’re outdoors, a change of shoes (especially for kids) can be useful post-adventure!

• “Forget” to bring electronic devices as little ones can get lost in them and can be distracting. Toys they interact with are perfect!

Need Help Choosing Outfits?

If you’d like a second opinion, feel free to send over your outfit ideas. I’m happy to help you pull the look together.
